Last LIVE SET for a while...

I think this is the last LIVE SET recording I have that has not been posted. If more sets turn up later, I'll add them. This is our most recent gig, just a couple weeks ago at Smiling Moose. Vulture CD release party with Complete Failure, Liquified Guts, and us. Great show, the last one we're going to be doing for a while, as we get to work on our new LP.

We're gonna be recording that thing for the next few months, so this blog thing will most likely take a turn towards chronicling that process for a little while. But first, I am gonna try to clear my hard drive and make available the rest of recordings /demos I have so they're all in one particular space (here).

Anyway...

SATANIC BRAT EP

Back in 2006 we did a Ramones tribute show as a benefit for the American Cancer Society. It was organized by our good friends the garage-rockin' Atomic Drops and all the bands learned a bunch of Ramones tunes, drank a free keg of PBR and had a blast.

Flyer from 2006:

As a "supplement" to the show, we recorded the 4 Ramones songs that we did for a short-run tribute CD-R thing. We called it SATANIC BRAT (as in, "Beat on the Brat with a Satanic Bat", etc...) and I think we made 50 copies. We sold it for a couple extra bucks to donate to the cause, and we gave away the rest of them by the end of the night, and that was it.

It's popped up for a minute on some friend's blogs and shit over the years, but otherwise, I doubt anyone that wasn't at that show ever heard this.

We were still experimenting with our limited recording gear at the time, and we learned and recorded these songs in 1 day. Plus, this is Pre-Hector, so there's not even a bass player on this. Still fun...

TRACKLIST:
1. Loudmouth
2. Commando
3. Beat on the Brat
4. R.A.M.O.N.E.S. (Motorhead)

I think the funniest part of it (besides the obvious fact that we made Doom metal versions of Ramones songs) is the cover:

I think both of these art pieces are Dan Rugh creations...Best dude.

Sept LIVE SET - Krug's Place, Fred-ROCK City

I mentioned just a couple posts back that we recently did a pretty rad show in Frederick, MD at Krug's Place. Krug's has become one of our favorite places to play because, well, the place rocks, and also because of our friend Fanny, who kicks maximum levels of ass. Fanny goes out of her to way to make sure every show is a blast and she gets the utmost respect of basically every heavy underground band in the Eastern US.

We got to play with 3 of the premier Doom bands this country has to offer: Argus, Earthride, and Valkyrie. Get to know all these blokes if you don't already. Go to their shows and spend all your money on their records and merch.

Here is our set from that show. The sound isn't the best on this one:

Recent LIVE SET

This recording is from May of this year - 31st Street Pub show. Our friend Mike (Dub EMC)'s birthday party with us and Lo-Pan from the great city of Columbus.

A couple weird ones in this set - Chronic Night Owl is a 3-part Rock Opera about weed-addicted barn owl on a killing rampage. And Ale Gypsy is one of our original jams that's a little silly, but still contains some good riffage, so we play it once in a blue moon.

Siftin' Thru Demos

This is pretty fucking funny. I don't know why we did such an elaborate demo of such a dopey song, but here is a surprisingly well-produced, yet horribly played demo version of the infamous (to us) JAP SKAT FEVER.

We might have actually played this live a few times - I can't remember. If we did, I'm sure no one got the joke.

Bivouac The Mighty

Here's some snaps of the new Bat Van - it's a beast. Just completed a maiden voyage to Maryland to rock out at Krug's with the mighty triumvirate of East Coast Doom: Earthride, Valkyrie, and Argus.

If you see us on the road, flag us down and give us your drugs...We prefer Ambien and Espresso, but we'll take whatever you got.

LIVE SET - Record Release Party from last year

This is from Halloween weekend last year - our Record Release show for Tales. Great show with good buds Lo Pan and Rebreather at the Smiling Moose.

This is a long one full of sloppy drunken rock, big loud mistakes, broken microphones and other disasters...dig:

LIVE SET - Wheeling, WV

I finally just got some of the many live Bat recordings of the last 2 years uploaded. I have been meaning to do this shit for a while so I can post them for whoever wants to hear 'em.

Here's a set from last year in Wheeling, WV at the Yesterdays Draughthouse that I remember as being particularly fun, as well as one of the best live recordings we have. We cover Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull at the end, preceded by Jethro's Tollbooth, which is about Ian Anderson, the great Welsh salmon farmer/flautist.

3.29.05 NEVER FORGET

Can we get a magnetic ribbon for our van????

March 29th marks 3 years since the egregious formation of the Satanic Bat. I only remember the exact day because it's also my birthday, and also the day awesome dude Mitch Hedberg kicked the bucket.

We actually started as a 2-piece back when me (JD) and Sven were sharing a practice space, but were in different bands. A couple months later Dave joined, then like a year later, Hector. We had done a ton of shows without a bassist, Dave filling in the holes with an octave pedal much of the time. Needless to say, we sound quite a bit different now.

Here is a video project we did for Dead Dixie Driver, one of our first jams, couple years back:

LIVE SET - Morgantown, WV

This weekend (Saturday Jan 26) we are playing at one of the best places - 1-2-3 PLEASANT STREET in Morgantown, WV. We played there back in August with 2 awesome bands Treasure Cat and West By God. (MP3's of our set posted below).

It was one of our funnest shows of the year, despite the fact that it's the only show we played as a 3-piece last year -Hector had to miss it.

This time we should all be making the scene. We're looking forward playing with our buds West By God once again, and also our pals from Youngstown, the tremendous, elephant-obsessed Rebreather.

WARNING: this is fucking rough around the edges.
Dave switches back and forth between bass and guitar, so some songs have no bass...The extra loud guitar killing the mix is mine, which means the mistakes and bad solos are also mine. Hey, we were shitbombed at midnight in West Virginia, give us a break.

Tales from the Southland...

We released an LP a few months ago (Halloween '07) called "Tales from the Southland, Tales from the Sea". It's available directly from our punk-ass label Oppressive Sound System. It's all nice and Digi-Pakk-y.

Cover Art was done mostly by our bro Dan Rugh...

It's being distributed by ALL THAT'S HEAVY DISTRIBUTION, which is affiliated with StonerRock.Com. If you just want to download it, go for the gusto at DigStation.com.
